How are we doing?

As the regional council for Canterbury/Waitaha – our priorities include freshwater management, climate change resilience, emissions reduction, pest control and protection and regeneration of biodiversity. Learn more about Council's role, responsibilities and work, or find out how we're tracking.

The Long-Term Plan/Te Pae Tawhiti (LTP) (LTP) sets out our strategic vision, commitment and accountability to the community. It outlines our planned activities for the next 10 years, how much they will cost and how they will be funded. It also describes the outcomes sought for the community.

Long-term planning is a continuous process. Council refreshes the LTP every three years. In the years between LTPs, all councils must produce an Annual Plan, with their budget for the next financial year.

Our current LTP covers the period 2021-31. We are reporting here on the Annual Plan/Mahere ā Tau or the period from 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024. Our next update to these pages will be in February 2024, to provide a report on quarter two of this reporting period.

Our work programmes, and our reporting, are organised into five portfolios, with Level of Service, measures, targets and key initiatives.

How are we tracking overall for the period 1 July to 30 September 2023?

Our Annual Plan for the 2023/24 year describes 40 Levels of Service, each of which has one or more measures and specific targets. For quarter one, the period from 1 July 2023 to the end of September 2023, 34 Levels of Service out of 40 are either achieved or on track to be achieved.
