Air pollution from woodburners and open fires makes a major contribution to poor winter air quality in Christchurch and some Canterbury towns. To help improve air quality to meet National Environmental Standards, the Air Plan has rules about what types of heating can now be used or installed. Subsidies are available to help with the cost of replacing old heating and for insulation.
