During flood events:

• Environment Canterbury staff closely monitor rainfall and riverflow via these gauges
• Environment Canterbury field staff monitor flood protection schemes for possible problems that could result in floodwaters breaking out from the river system
• rainfall data, river flow data and warnings are more frequently updated on the Environment Canterbury website and on the River Report info line
• flood warnings are also broadcast over local radio stations
• Environment Canterbury works very closely with local territorial authorities, Civil Defence and Emergency Management (CDEM) and the Police, advising them on the flooding situation and where any problems are likely to occur.
