Deposition of inert materials to temporarily fill voids left by demolition related work within Christchurch City

Due to the Canterbury and Christchurch earthquake events, a significant quantity of demolition waste has been generated. This document provides guidance on the appropriate temporary disposal of inert materials into voids left by demolition related work within Christchurch City for works associated with earthquake recovery.

Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Guidelines for Waste Management Plan (WMP) Completion

This document is intended to provide guidance on how to manage and control earthquake demolition waste from source to disposal. It needs to be read, completed and submitted to Environment Canterbury and CERA for approval before a demolition takes place. All waste shall be managed in accordance with the Plan submitted, relevant resource consents, as well as waste and health & safety laws and regulations. It will assist in managing the demolition and disposal pathway to ensure all waste is recycled or disposed of lawfully, safely and in an environmentally sustainable manner. Failure to comply with the plan and/or the correct disposal of waste may result in prosecution under the RMA and/or the withdrawal of demolition contract accreditation.

• It is the responsibility of facility operators to ensure they remain compliant with their resource consents. Breaches of resource consent conditions and/or other authorisations will result in the facility being removed from this list.
• It is the responsibility of any waste transport operator to enquire with approved facilities regarding hours of operation, acceptable materials, costs and volumes.
