The new annual flat rate charge formed part of the Long Term Council Community Plan (LTCCP) 2009-19 which was confirmed by Council in June and takes effect 1 July 2009.
- Last year compliance monitoring ran a series of focus groups with consent holders across a range of activity types from large to small scale to get their feedback.
- The issue was identified as one of ten ‘What do you think?’ topics in the draft 2009-19 LTCCP. These topics were the subject of a public consultation process held earlier this year. The consultation included a special edition of the Living Here newspaper going to every letterbox in Canterbury. There were also displays at key locations throughout Canterbury, public notice ads, and a number of meetings hosted by Environment Canterbury councillors.
- As a result there were LTCCP submissions on the subject – a large number of which were in favour of the proposal. (90% - we received 55 submissions and 50 were in support of changes to the charging regime).
