Environment Canterbury is considering the introduction of a uniform annual general charge to cover funding of some core services which benefit all ratepayers equally. This type of charge is a fixed charge per household, regardless of the value of individual properties.
Some of the costs related to the provision of democracy functions at Environment Canterbury have been identified a possible candidates for funding via a uniform annual general charge.
These include the cost of councillor representation and provision of public information. This work is considered to benefit all ratepayers equally.
