The Canterbury Mayoral Forum is leading development of a comprehensive water management strategy for the region. This is happening because of concerns about the increasing risk of water shortages and how this will affect the community.

 

Stages 1 – 3 of the Canterbury Strategic Water Study have been completed. Stage 4 - known as the Canterbury Water Management Strategy Programme – is now underway. A Steering Group is overseeing this work.

In May the steering group consulted with the general public about 4 proposed options and listened to presentations relating to submissions received.

The steering group is currently drafting up a strategy document to present to Central Government.
