What facilities are available in the Waimakariri River Regional Park?
Following facilities are available in the Waimakariri River Regional Park:
- 11km of walking track at McLeans Forest and 21km of shared cycle and walking tracks at Kaiapoi Island connecting to Kaiapoi
- over 10kms of mountain bike tracks at McLeans Forest
- 16kms of mixed cycling and walking tracks at McLeans Forest
- purpose built quad bike and trail bike tracks and jumps covering an area of 40 hectares catering for a range of skill levels (north side of river, upstream of Taylors Road), as well as freedom riding trail bike tracks (west of McLeans Island and the Eyre Diversion)
- river swimming holes
- a jet boat ramp with trailer car parks and a commercial jetboat operator (Kaiapoi Island main entrance area)
- horse riding tracks west of the Otukaikino Stream (South Branch) confluence
- car parking
- toilets at Kaiapoi Island and McLeans Forest main entrance areas
- picnic areas (gas barbeques use only permitted)
- a drinking fountain at the McLeans Forest main entrance area
- a commercial bike hire and refreshments vendor at McLeans Forest
- interpretation panels
- two viewing platforms at Poynter Nature Reserve
- Environment Canterbury requires a permit for events and commercial operations
