Environmental offences can be serious criminal offences under the Resource Management Act. Offenders can be imprisoned for up to two years and fined up to $200,000.

 

The Environment Canterbury Enforcement Unit has a number of options ranging from a verbal warning  right through to applying to the Environment Court for an enforcement order; and/or prosecution.
