Is the incident occurring at present? If yes, Environment Canterbury will follow it up depending on availability of the monitoring or enforcement officers. However, if it occurred in the past, we will register your call and ask you to please ring when the incident occurs again so that we then can follow it up.
Generally, pollution-related complaints should be reported to the 24 hour Pollution Hotline on 0800 76 55 88. However, you may have been referred to Customer Services because of Pollution Hotline overload. We'll be able to refer the incident to the Environment Canterbury monitoring or enforcement teams.
If a resource consent for the activity exists, the incident will be referred to the Environmental Protection Officers to be monitored. If no resource consent exists, the incident will be referred to the Enforcement Officers for further assessment and follow-up.
