If there has been a pollution spill or incident on the Chatham Islands you can ring Environment Canterbury's Pollution Hotline to report the issue. Environment Canterbury will then arrange for the incident to be assessed and action taken if necessary.
The pollution hotline receives around 100 calls a week from the public. The types of incidents reported range from:
pollution in streams
dumping of hazardous materials and waste
earthworks and disturbance in a river bed
smokey chimneys
unauthorised irrigation
outside fires
To help our staff please obtain the following details if possible.
- The specific location, or closest road intersection of the incident
- Details of when the incident occurred
- A good description of the scale or intensity of the issue
- A contact person who would be willing to talk to our staff confidentially if necessary.
