By improving the ceiling and under floor insulation your house will be easier to heat, so you will find that you only need an appliance with a lower output, which will also mean you have lower running costs. Ideally a layer of approx. 200mm of fiberglass batts (or their equivalent) should be installed.
Burning wood with a low moisture content will help make a low emission burner more effective.
