It is not necessary to remove your old wood burner or close off your open fire once the ban in your area commences, however you will not be able to use the fire or wood burner.
For Christchurch these fires will not be able to be used from 1 April until 30 September each year.
In Kaiapoi and Ashburton Environment Canterbury will be enforcing this ban from 1 May 2011 and May 2012 respectively. In these areas the use of open fires and old wood burners will be permanently banned.
