From 1 April 2010 residents in Christchurch's Clean Air zone will not be able to use their open fires or solid fuel burners older than 15 years during the winter months.
The ban extends from 1 April until 30 September each year and people who use thir fires during this time may face enforcement action from Environment Canterbury. Outside these months people are able to use their fires.
In Kaiapoi home owners with open fires and older woodburners will not be able to use them after 1 May 2011 while the ban in Ashburton will be effective from 1 May 2012.
