Environment Canterbury has allowed provisions for burning wood in the future in all of their Air Plan rules, however you may need to replace your wood burner with cleaner burning ones and new homes being built may be restricted as to what sort of appliances they can install.
Air quality in the region does need to be improved and appliances that use wood or coal, even cleaner burning ones will always make some contribution to winter air pollution.
