The purpose of this variation is to introduce into Chapter 3 of the Proposed Canterbury Natural Resources Regional Plan a specific management regime to reduce PM₁₀ contaminant in air within Ashburton.

This variation sets out additions and changes to Chapter 3 of the Proposed Canterbury Natural Resources Regional Plan.

These additions and changes:

1. Introduce a new objective, policies and methods, including rules, relating specifically to the management of PM₁₀ contamination of ambient air in Ashburton.
2. Result in amendments to the ‘explanation and principal reasons’ to existing Issue AQL2 and Objective AQL2.
3. Introduce two new Clean Air Zones for Ashburton.
