Environment Canterbury is a joint lead agency for emergency management. It is required to be a member and
administering authority for the Canterbury Civil Defence Emergency Management Group (Civil Defence Emergency
Management Act 2002). Environment Canterbury’s responsibilities as an emergency response agency include responding to flood hazards, coastal marine oil spills and coastal inundation.
