Environment Canterbury is required to communicate effectively with the general public through democratic and effective regional government (under the Local Government Act 2002, Local Electoral Act 2001, Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, and Resource Management Act 1991). We are also the lead agency for overarching regional planning (under the Resource Management Act 1991).
