The Christchurch Rolleston and Environs Transportation Study (CRETS), which looked at the long-term transport needs for areas south and west of Christchurch, was completed in late 2007 with receipt of the final report from consultants Connell Wagner.

The study partners are using the recommended transport strategy as a significant contribution to the future planning of Greater Christchurch and all agencies will use this information as they work together to develop a coordinated transport implementation plan for the Urban Development Strategy.
