More than 2000 resource consents are monitored in Canterbury each quarter. Every time a condition of a resource consent is monitored a compliance grade is recorded. The consent holder is notified of the grades for each condition by a compliance monitoring report. The compliance grades are assessed to determine the frequency of monitoring required. Consistent, full compliance with the conditions of a resource consent is likely to result in the consent holder being monitored less frequently. Conversely, persistent or major non-compliance is likely to result in enforcement action being initiated by Environment Canterbury.
July to September 2009
In the last quarter (July to September 2009), a total of 2993 consents were monitored for compliance with their conditions. This is up slightly from the second quarter of 2009. Compliance monitoring during this period identified 234 persistent or significant non-compliances. Enforcement action has been taken on 138 consents, the majority coming from the Ashburton District.
