Upper Waitaki community members urged to apply for committee

People interested in applying for appointment to the Upper Waitaki zone committee have until Friday, November 5 to complete and submit their expression of Interest form.

Public information meetings on the role of the Upper Waitaki zone committee and the Canterbury Water Management Strategy are scheduled for: 

o       Tuesday, October 19 (7.30pm) at the Otematata Lakes Centre, and,

o       Thursday, October 28 (7.30pm) at the Twizel Events Centre.

The four to six community members of the Upper Waitaki zone committee will be announced later this year following a thorough assessment and appointment process. These members will be selected to work collaboratively and with the community to develop solutions to water issues that give effect to the principles and targets of the Canterbury Water Management Strategy. 

To be considered for appointment, candidates must either live in or have a significant relationship with the zone.  Members are appointed for a three year term.

Applications must be on the form which is downloadable from the Canterbury Water website and include the applicant’s curriculum vitae.  Applications should be submitted via email to the address on the Expression of Interest form.

The committee will be a joint committee of Environment Canterbury, the Mackenzie District Council and Waitaki District Council.

The Upper Waitaki Zone stretches from the headwaters of Lake Tekapo in the north, to south of Otematata, and takes in Lakes Tekapo, Ohau, Pukaki, Benmore and Aviemore and the Waitaki hydro catchment.
