Canterbury restoration field days

Environment Canterbury has joined forces with key partner organisations for a major biodiversity event - the Canterbury Restoration Field-days organised to celebrate this success and to provide help for those seeking answers to the ‘how’, ‘what’ and ‘where’ of biodiversity restoration.

The field-days will be held on 19-20 September 2009 in Motukarara Conservation Nursery (DOC), 20 km south of Christchurch. & Field-trips around central Canterbury. Field trips take place on 20 September.

Christchurch & Timaru Science Fairs 2009

The science fairs annually celebrate excellence in science and technology and the Environment Canterbury School Awards are an established part of each fair.

School projects entered for the awards focus on sustainable resource management – ways we can look after and conserve air, land and water. Other project topics involve energy use such as sustainable transport, renewable sources of energy and waste management.

Prize winners from each category have the opportunity to be awarded Environment Canterbury’s prestigious Wrybill Trophy.

Canterbury water management strategy launch

This groundbreaking strategy is the result of a huge amount of work by a wide range of people and has been informed by extensive stakeholder and public discussion. Feedback on the draft strategy is being encouraged over the next month. The final strategy will be published at the end of October and will then be presented to local authorities, regional council, Ngai Tahu and Central Government for consideration and eventually adoption.

The Canterbury Water Management Strategy is sponsored by the Canterbury Mayoral Forum and is driven by the Steering Group who represent the wider Canterbury community and its interest groups.
