2010 Reports

These reports (R11/66, R11/68, R11/69, R11/70) summarising 2010 and early 2011 data cover aspects of water quality, sediment and biota of the Avon-Heathcote Estuary/Ihutai and rivers. They complement the 2009,  2008  and 2007 data reports. This is the fourth set of summary reports to be produced as part of the Healthy Estuary and Rivers of the City: Water quality and ecosystem health monitoring programme of Ihutai. Reports including more detailed analysis, such as trends over time, will be produced following 5 years of data collection.

Water quality of the Avon and Heathcote rivers - Summary report on data collected in 2010 (R11/69)

This report summarises data collected in 2010 from the Avon and Heathcote rivers as part of Value B - Healthy Ecosystems - water quality. Water quality is monitored at sites on both the Avon/Ōtākaro and Heathcote/Ōpāwaho rivers as well as some of their tributary streams in the upper parts of their catchments. This is a summary report of the water quality data collected at these sites and an overall evaluation of their water quality in 2010.

2009 Reports

These reports (R10/139, R10/140, R10/141, R10/147, R10/148) summarising 2009 and early 2010 data cover aspects of water quality, sediment and biota of the Avon-Heathcote Estuary/Ihutai and rivers, as well as heavy metals in fish and shellfish. They complement the 2008 (R09/82 - R09/85) and 2007 (R08/43 - R08/47) data reports. This is the third set of summary reports to be produced as part of the Healthy Estuary and Rivers of the City: Water quality and ecosystem health monitoring programme of Ihutai. This report summarises data collected in 2008 from the tidal reaches and Estuary of the Heathcote & Avon Rivers/Ihutai as part of Value B – Healthy Ecosystems – soft sediments of the estuary and tidal reaches.Not only does this monitoring provide information on the present state of the sediments and biota, but by sampling every year it will be possible to see if and how the sediments and biota change over time. This report is the summary of the sediment and biota data collected in 2008.

This report summarises data collected in 2007 from the tidal reaches and Estuary of the Heathcote & Avon Rivers/Ihutai as part of Value B – Healthy Ecosystems – soft sediments of the estuary and tidal reaches. In order to assess the state of the sediments and biota of the Estuary of the Heathcote & Avon Rivers/Ihutai and tidal reaches of the Avon/Ōtākaro and Heathcote Rivers, a monitoring programme started in 2007. Not only does this monitoring provide information on the present state of the sediments and biota, but by sampling every year it will be possible to see if and how the sediments and biota change over time. This report is the summary of the sediment and biota data collected in 2007. This is the first annual summary report.
