The Orari-Opihi-Pareora (OOP) Zone extends from the Pareora catchment in the south to the south bank of the Rangitata River in the north, and inland to the Two Thumb Range.
There are a variety of habitats ranging from the mountains to the sea. High country tussocklands, alpine herbfields and sub-alpine forests occur in the foothills. Pockets of podocarp and broadleaf dominated forests reside in the steepest valleys and occasionally as remnants on the downs and plains. Freshwater wetlands are scattered throughout the zone, some provide habitat for weaving species traditionally used by Māori.
