Heavy rain that has been falling along the Main Divide for the last 24 hours is now easing. This rain will still cause the Waimakariri River to rise throughout the day, and flow above normal levels. Higher than normal flows are also likely in the Rakaia, Hurunui and Waiau Rivers.
At this time, Environment Canterbury does not expect rivers to rise to significant flood levels, or for there to be any "out of river" flood problems. However, any recreationalists or contractors using riverbeds should remain wary of rising water levels.
