An update on trout spawning in the Avon River, and notes on the effects of seismic activity on physical habitat
The objectives of this study were to: 1. Undertaken a trout spawning survey at a similar time of year as previous surveys and compare the trout redd distribution with previous surveys; 2. Record and document any apparent effects of seismic activity on trout spawning habitat; 3. Obtain data on water quality from trout redds, specifically dissolved oxygen and nitrate levels; 4. Determine any particular reaches which may have been particularly adversely affected by seismic activity; 5. Make recommendations in respect to remediation of trout spawning grounds.

Bird monitoring on Banks Peninsula: Annual report for 2009
A network of five-minute bird count sites has been established by local community groups, Christchurch City Council and Environment Canterbury on Banks Peninsula. The ultimate purpose is to monitor the effectiveness of pest control programmes for maintaining or increasing native bush bird numbers. Currently, the monitoring programme is in the establishment phase, building up a picture of species distribution and seasonal abundance over the peninsula. This is the second annual report and covers the 2009 calendar year.
